As promised, Kensington Palace confirmed today at that the Duchess of Cambridge is safely in her hospital room inside St. Mary’s Lindo Wing.
“Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge has been admitted to St. Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, London in the early stages of labour,” the palace tweeted just before 3am ET.
“The Duchess travelled by car from Kensington Palace to the Lindo Wing at St. Mary’s Hospital with The Duke of Cambridge.”
The palace confirmed that Her Royal Highness went into labor “naturally.” She is progressing well, they told members of the press.
Much to the press pack’s delight outside, Her Royal Highness is due to give birth to the future monarch imminently.
This is the first time social media has been used to make such an announcement regarding a royal birth. Royal reporter Dickie Arbiter, LVO, told me that when she was pregnant, Buckingham Palace confirmed that the Princess of Wales was in the Lindo Wing, and then again when the baby was born (the palace does not comment on if/when the expectant mother goes into labor)
Arbiter noted that in addition to a notice from Clarence House, the announcement from Kensington Palace will go to the Press Association and their email list.
