Welcome back to Celebuzz’s Most Iconic VMA Moments showdown. In anticipation of of the 2013 MTV VMA ceremony on August 25, we want you to help us name the most memorable VMA scandal ever. Two weeks ago, we asked you to vote for your favorite VMA performance. (Britney Spears’ 2001 performance of “I’m a Slave 4 U” won in that category.) Last week, we asked you to vote for your favorite VMA fashion moment. (Congrats, once again, to Britney’s 2002 dominatrix-meets-biker-chick look!) Now, it’s all about the drama! You may vote once per hour.

Is Madonna‘s on-stage makeout session with Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera the most scandalous VMA moment ever? Let us know by voting below – and then read on for a GIF-filled look back at their insane 2003 performance.

Remember That Time Madonna Made Out With Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera on Stage?

Of course you do.

And who could forget how MTV cut to Justin Timberlake‘s insta-classic reaction?

Oh, and Madonna also kissed Christina Aguilera, but no one really cared as much for some reason?

Without a doubt, this was the most talked about moment of the 2003 VMAs. It may have been the most talked about pop culture “event” of the year. Some would argue it is the most iconic VMA moment of all time. Do you agree? Lady Gaga certainly does:

So why did we not include this moment in our performances poll? Well, though it is technically a performance, let’s be real: no one really cares about the part where Britney and Christina singing “Like a Virgin.” Also, it’s not like anyone remembers that eventually Missy Elliott ran out to rap a few bars. This performance is iconic because of that single moment. The controversy was all because of The Kiss(es). The headlines that followed, the jaws that still, to this day, remain on the floor… all because of the infamous lip-locking. But beware, dear readers, for sometimes this level of notoriety comes at a price:

Don’t forget to vote for your favorite scandal above. Remember, you can vote once per hour. May the most scandalous moment win!

Most Iconic VMA Moments: Rose McGowan Lets It ALL Hang Out in 1998

Welcome back to Celebuzz’s Most Iconic VMA Moments showdown. In anticipation of of the 2013 MTV VMA ceremony on August 25, we want you to help us name the most iconic VMA fashion moment ever. Last week, we asked you to vote for your favorite VMA performance. (Britney Spears’ 2001 performance of “I’m a Slave 4 U” won in that category.) This week, it’s all about the clothing (or lack thereof). Return next week for a new round of voting about the biggest VMA scandal. You may vote once per hour.

Is Rose McGowan‘s barely-there mesh outfit the most iconic VMA fashion moment ever? Vote below, and read on for a nostalgic look back at Rose’s jaw-dropping red carpet look.

Rose McGown Wore Practically Nothing to the 1998 VMAs, Upstaged Even Marilyn Manson

There isn’t much to say about Rose McGowan’s shocking red carpet appearance at the 1998 VMAs, because she wasn’t wearing much of an outfit. It was so outrageous, we can’t even show it uncensored.

But here’s something to consider: Somehow, Rose managed to out-shock-factor her then-boyfriend, Marilyn Manson, who was, at the time, the most polarizing figure in popular music. If you can, peel your eyes away from Rose’s outfit, and take a look at Mr. Manson. On any other day, his ensemble would have turned more heads than Lil Kim‘s purple pasty outfit did the following year. But standing next to Rose, it’s easy to see why his outrageousness was eclipsed.

The fact of the matter is, if you search for “worst VMA outfits of all time,” you will probably see Rose near the top of every list. However, the point is not whether you like this look or not. We’re still writing about this “dress” fifteen years later, which is probably exactly what Rose had in mind when she selected it. What do you say, dear readers? Most iconic VMA outfit of all time?

Don’t forget to cast your vote for the most iconic VMA outfit above. Again, you may vote once per hour. Return each day this week for a new feature on each of the outfits in our poll.
