With Coutinho now sidelined for up to six weeks with a fairly random shoulder injury, Liverpool have lost their main creative spark and Brendan Rodgers now has a huge dilemma regarding who to put into the team whilst attempting to maintain the great momentum the Reds have built up since January.
The Ulsterman has a good number of options to consider with the Reds brimming with young, attacking starlets such as Moses, Sterling, Ibe, Henderson and Alberto, as well as the more experienced Iago Aspas. Let us also not forget the imminent return of the infamous Luis Suarez, too.
As well as the cover afforded by the growing squad, Rodgers has also brought in players with fantastic versatility and this means the Reds could line up in one of any number of formations from 4-3-3 to 4-2-3-1 to 5-3-2. These two factors make Liverpool’s clash with Southampton this weekend all the more interesting. A number of questions need answering and whether or not Liverpool remain top of the league come Saturday night rests solely on Rodgers’s shoulders.
Here are some of the potential options available to BR come Saturday’s 3 o’clock kick off, with capital letters in the line ups denoting a change in personnel or starting position:

Liverpool are set to face competition from Northwest rivals Manchester United over Sevilla captain and Croatian midfielder Ivan Rakitic.
The Daily Express revealed both Premier League heavyweights are interested in Rakitic, 25, but must pay his reported release clause of 33 million to land him.
Sevilla do not need to sell during the winter window, however, as they let Spanish pair Alvaro Negredo and Jesus Navas join Manchester City this past summer for big money. On the other hand, Rakitic is their only remaining prize asset.
La Liga side Sevilla have gone from European successes, including back-to-back UEFA Cups under Juande Ramos in 2006 and 2007, and top four finishes to being the best of the rest in Spain. They finished ninth last season, but still managed to get into the Europa League.
Rakitic, who has a year-and-a-half left on his contract, is Sevilla’s skipper and top scorer with seven goals in La Liga this term – the same number Gareth Bale has for Real Madrid so far.
Both Brendan Rodgers and David Moyes have been alerted by Rakitic’s recent admission that he has become frustrated with a lack of success at Sevilla. Liverpool seek a long-term replacement for captain Steven Gerrard, who is currently injured. United too are looking for a dynamic and creative central midfielder.

Liverpool have learned from their lessons last season and have wasted no time at all this summer in getting the bulk of the transfer dealings wrapped up in good time.
Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, Manchester City defender Kolo Toure, Celta Vigo forward Iago Aspas and Barcelona B midfielder Luis Alberto have all moved to Anfield in recent months, a stark contrast to 12 months ago.
Then, the Reds allowed the likes of Craig Bellamy, Dirk Kuyt and Andy Carroll leave, and failed to replace any of them in the summer window, leaving the forward line threadbare until January, when Daniel Sturridge was plucked from Chelsea.
Those were hairy times for the Kop but now, manager Brendan Rodgers finds himself in a much healthier position following his recent acquisitions – and he hasn’t put his chequebook away quite yet, either.
Earlier this month, the Northern Irishman claimed he is now targeting “higher caliber players” over the remaining weeks of the transfer window, explaining he has “improved the squad – now we must improve the team”.
We could therefore be in for a shock or two this summer if Rodgers does indeed target a “marquee player”, and here, we take a look at 5 Surprise Summer Signings Brendan Rodgers Could Make.
