QPR striker Loic Remy is set to undergo a medical at Newcastle today ahead of his proposed season-long loan spell at St James’ Park, according to Team Talk.
The France international was omitted from the Hoop’s squad to face Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend and is now set to seal a return to the Premier League by joining the Magpies for 12 months.
Newcastle are desperate to add firepower to their forward line this season and look set to finally land Remy having missed out on the 26-year-old in the January window.
But they had been warned by R’s manager Harry Redknapp that they’d have to fork out 2 million to borrow a player that cost 8 million seven months ago.
“We paid about 8million for him, so if someone wants to loan him for a year, we are entitled to get 2million a year for him.”
And the former Totenham manager believes Remy can succeed anywhere he plays.
“Make no mistake, he will get between 15 and 20 goals next season if he goes to a Premier League club. He is a top-class player – a player for any club in the Premier League in my opinion.”
Remy scored six goals in 14 Premier League outings for the Hoops last season following his January switch from Marseille, but could not prevent his new side being relegated in May.
A deal for the Frenchman would represent a major breakthrough for Newcastle in the summer transfer window having previously been frustrated in their efforts to sign a number of targets.
Pierre Emerick Aubameyang opted for a move to Borussia Dortmund while a move for free-agent Douglas, the FC Twente defender, failed to come to fruition.

The Premier league’s bottom club will host the top when Man United visit Loftus Road tomorrow. Things couldn’t be going much better for United at the moment; 12 points clear of Man City at the top of the table, into the FA Cup quarter finals and a fine draw at Real Madrid still in the memory. A win will take them 15 points clear before City have to host Chelsea on Sunday.
QPR’s situation is the total opposite: they’re 4 points adrift at the bottom of the table, 7 from safety and they were hammered 4-1 by Swansea in their last league game. Harry Redknapp needs 3 points desperately to put some pressure on the teams around them and lift the spirits at the club.
Harry will take some positives from the fact that Wayne Rooney and Phil Jones look set to miss the game, but his own striker Loic Remy is a doubt due to a groin problem.
Top vs Bottom is always far trickier for the top team than what appears at face value. United will be heavy favourites and will face a QPR side that are in dire need of some points. Redknapp’s men will need some huge performances and try to prey on any weakness in the United line up that they can think of.
Here are 5 key battles to look out for tomorrow at Loftus Road.
