Liverpool are bracing themselves for a 45 million transfer deadline day bid from Real Madrid for striker Luis Suarez, according to the Metro.
The Reds have battled tooth and nail to retain the services of the Uruguayan, who has been linked with a move away from Anfield all summer.
They have already rejected two bids – one of 30 million and a second worth 40 million and 1 – from Premier League rivals Arsenal, but may have to fend off interest in their prized asset a third time as Real prepare their late offer.
The Spanish giants have just broken the world transfer record by landing Gareth Bale from Tottenham for 86 million, but their spending spree may not end there, with just a little under eight hours of the transfer window left to run.
Suarez scored 33 goals for club and country last season and was nominated for the PFA Player of the Year Award, while his good form earned him a series of admirers from some of the continent’s leading clubs.
As well as Real and Arsenal, European Champions Bayern Munich have shown an interest in the striker in the past, and Liverpool remain under heavy pressure to sell despite their official stance that the player is not for sale.
Suarez has in the past made no secret of his ambition to play for a Champions League club and recently admitted that he dreams of playing for Madrid.

Tottenham midfielder Gareth Bale is set to miss the Premier League opener against Crystal Palace amid ongoing speculation about his future, according to Sky Sports News.
The 24-year-old has sat out the majority of Spurs’s pre-season campaign with buttock and foot problems and wasn’t involved in the recent games against Brentford and Swindon.
He also sat out Wales’s 0-0 draw with the Republic of Ireland yesterday.
Bale will remain with his Welsh teammates this week before returning to Tottenham ahead of the Premier League opener against Palace at the weekend, though according to manager Andre Villas-Boas is not expected to take part.
When asked if the midfielder would play a part in the game against Ian Holloway’s side, Villas-Boas replied:
“No, because he has been out injured most of pre-season.”
Rumours over Bale’s future continue to swirl with the Welshman continuing to be linked with a world-record-transfer move to Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has been making efforts to distance himself from the speculation, saying recently that Bale “is not in his plans”.
But news that Bale could be set for a 100 million move to the Bernabeu continues to intensify and you have to wonder if the double PFA Player of the Year has already played for Tottenham for the final time.

Arsenal will announce the successful signing of Real Madrid midfielder Mesut Ozil in the “coming hours”, according to the BBC’s David Ornstein.
Gunner’s manager Arsene Wenger has come in for intense criticism in recent weeks over the lack of new signings at Emirates Stadium this summer but he looks set to finally splash the cash on the Germany international.
The Londoners are set to break their club-transfer record after agreeing a 42.4 million deal with Real for the services of the 24-year-old, who scored nine La Liga goals last season.
Ozil has agreed personal terms with Arsenal but must undergo a medical before the Gunners can confirm his signing, while BBC Sport’s David Ornstein goes on to report “the documentation is being signed and completed as we speak.”
“Arsenal are preparing to confirm the signing of Germany midfielder Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid. The Gunners are set to make an announcement in the coming hours. The documentation is being signed and completed as we speak.”
The deal would easily dwarf the 17.5 million Arsenal paid Sevilla for Jose Antonio Reyes in 2004, with the Spain international being the Gunner’s costliest purchase to date.
The arrival of Ozil would give Gooners some much needed cheer this summer, with striker Yaya Sanogo, 20, and midfielder Mathieu Flamini, 29, being the only new arrivals so far, both arriving on free transfers.
Ozil is set to fall down the pecking order at the Bernabeu if he stays, after Madrid signed Gareth Bale from Tottenham for a world-transfer-record 85 million.

Karim Benzema’s agent has moved to quell rumours of an impending move to Arsenal in a major French Sunday newspaper, reports the Guardian.
Le Journal du Dimanche featured an interview with the player’s agent Karim Djaziri, who was adamant the player will be staying put at the Bernabau.
We can not fight against the rumours, but I assure you Karim will not go to Arsenal. There has never been any discussions and no contact has been established.
He went on to say;
We are working on a contract extension for three years,” he said. “Discussions are taking place quietly, without deadline. Karim could well end his career at Real, the club of his dreams.
If true, this is yet another major setback for Ars ne Wenger in the transfer market. The 25-year-old French international striker became a target after it became clear that Luis Suarez was staying put at Liverpool, for the time being at least.
With a week to go in the transfer market, and literally no signings of any major significance made at Arsenal despite a reputed 70 million war chest, it seems that the Wenger frugality approach is to the fore once more. Whether this is by choice or design is another question, but the lack of new faces has worried the Arsenal faithful, and the bad news seems to be coming thick and fast.
Who should Arsenal sign? Let us know in the comments below.
